The role:
As Financial Controller, you’ll be at the heart of financial strategy—leading on forecasting, reporting, and business partnering. Your insights will drive key decisions and influence the long-term success of the business. This is a hands-on role with significant exposure to the leadership team and a real chance to make your mark.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate monthly reports, management accounts, and variance analysis.
- Build and enhance robust financial models to support long-term forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
- Oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Manage working capital effectively, including cash flow forecasting, capex planning, and liquidity oversight.
- Strengthen financial controls and processes, identifying opportunities to drive efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Analyse cost drivers to highlight opportunities for savings and performance optimisation.
- Act as a true business partner—delivering financial insight to inform commercial and operational decisions.
- Coordinate annual budgeting processes in line with business objectives.
- Support year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.
- Provide analytical input for commercial deals and investment decisions.
- Work closely with the leadership team to prepare impactful reports and presentations for investors.
Requirements:
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or close to qualifying)—CIMA preferred.
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior finance role within a fast-paced SME, ideally in the FMCG or consumer goods sector. Alternatively, you may come from a financial consultancy background working with FMCG clients and looking for your first in-house move.
- Strong financial modelling and forecasting skills, paired with solid management accounting experience.
- Advanced Excel proficiency with an eye for detail and data-driven insight.
- Highly analytical with a problem-solving mindset and excellent commercial acumen.
- Able to manage competing priorities and thrive in a dynamic, scale-up environment.
- Clear communicator with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working cross-functionally to support wider business goals.
